Video Game Addiction Lawsuit
Lawsuit Overview
Video games made by Roblox Corp. (Roblox), Epic Games (Fortnite), and Microsoft/Mojang Studios (Minecraft) have grown in popularity over the past several years—especially among children. Studies have shown these games are addicting to minor children, however, leading to mental health disorders including eating disorders, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation.
These video games were allegedly designed to addict children and do not have adequate safeguards to monitor or control screen time. Now, parents and caregivers are filing lawsuits against the makers of these games, alleging that the games were purposefully designed to addict youth.

What is Video Game Addiction?
While over 190 million Americans play video games, only a small percentage develop video game addiction. Children who have played popular video games such as Roblox, Fortnite, and Minecraft can become easily addicted to them due to a surge in dopamine—the neurotransmitter in the brain associated with reward. This rush and release of dopamine can become addicting, creating a strong desire to seek out that feeling repeatedly.
Video game addiction can lead to neglect of responsibilities (such as school), previously-enjoyed activities (such as sports and hobbies), or changes in behavior (such as eating, social interactions with friends, or violent outbursts). Children who have played video games for at least 70 hours in a 5-week period and have experienced adverse health consequences may be addicted to video games.
