Was I Exposed to Paraquat?
If you are a farm or agricultural worker, groundskeeper, or herbicide applicator worker, you may be wondering if you have been exposed to Paraquat. Paraquat is a toxic chemical herbicide that has been linked to the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. Ingestion of the chemical may also prove fatal.
The herbicide has been widely used since the 1960s as an effective rain-resistant weed killer. It has long been regarded as a lethal chemical. After studies linked paraquat to dangerous side-effects, such as neurological symptoms that may lead to Parkinson’s disease, many countries have since banned its use. Inhalation of paraquat droplets may lead to serious health consequences for farmers, agricultural workers, and those licensed to mix or spray the chemical.
Symptoms of Paraquat Exposure
Paraquat exposure can happen via ingestion, inhalation, and contact with the skin. Ingestion has also been reported to cause brain damage. Paraquat may cause lung damage, organ failure, or central nervous system problems that could lead to Parkinson’s disease. Tremors, imbalance, lack of coordination, slow or stiff movements, and walking difficulties are symptoms of this central nervous system condition.
Want to Know if you are Eligible to File a Paraquat Lawsuit?
Plaintiffs have filed hundreds of paraquat cases alleging that companies such as Chevron Chemical Company, Syngenta, Growmark and others, have sold paraquat-based herbicides despite knowing about the alleged link between the dangerous chemical and Parkinson’s disease. If you or a loved one handled or used an herbicide or pesticide containing paraquat and were later diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, you may be legally entitled to compensation.
