What’s the Difference Between a Mass Tort and a Class Action?

A class action generally involves one or two named plaintiffs who seek to represent a class of several individuals not named in the complaint.   In contrast, a mass tort occurs when several plaintiffs, each of which have separate and distinct cases, are joined together in a single action.
